From my friend, Lotta: THANK YOU!

New Book Out

This has been a long time coming—and, even now, I’m not sure how to proceed. This is not my first rodeo, but I’m at a time/point in life where I feel very fragile. About EVERYTHING. You see, I’m a Woman of a Certain Age. I want you to order the book, I want you to read the collection, I want you to love/like it. I’m a bit lost. Yes, there’s social media, the immediacy of emails. There’s even the option of paid advertising, but how does one really get eyes on something when it seems everyday life is sucking all the energy out of us? I wish it were easier—like being famous already, like an influencer, like having Oprah as a best friend (fill in the blank). The stories range from long to short, biographical to purely made up shit, from oldest to newest. But they are all Woman centric. I had a young male reader tell me they made him cry—not all of them, but a few. He was definitely inspired, he said. Let me know if you are influencer, a professor, a friend and I can link you to...

Print Books Available

I’ve reached a new goal: Print Books Available through D2D as well as KDP (Amazon). When I first published through Smashwords it was digital ebook only. After being acquired and changing its name to D2D (Digital2Digital ) they began to do print also. The 2 platforms, D2D and KDP are similar but different. It was a learning curve to take the titles offered at D2D through their system. Even now, I’m not sure they’re quite “there” yet. I can make changes in 90 days. Especially, with 365 Affirmations—the set up was NEVER going to be perfect, the layout is way too glitchy. All the effort was in preparation for me to offer—hopefully by September— a short story collection . Stay tuned. I’m excited to announce that all my books  will be promoted on @Smashwords for 50% off the entire month of July as part of their Annual Summer/Winter Sale! Be sure to follow me for more updates and links to the promotion for my books and many more! #SWSale2025 #Smashwords

A change in plans

Image
This past winter I spent an inordinate amount of time revising my creative nonfiction project about bicycling in the UK. By inordinate I mean time well-spent on making the manuscript better and the transitions more fluid and digging deeper into the emotional heart of the story. Nevertheless, I just received a NO from the editor who hadn’t quite committed to the project, but had seemed interested. I’ll take whatever interest I can get. And, now, there’s no interest. It was a blow. I’d thought I was emotional prepared, but I think with all the other turmoil roiling around me via the news, I was laid low. I’m currently re-calibrating future plans for the manuscript and possibly self-publishing. I’ve reached out to a few writerly friends and they’ve all been supportive. It’s just lately . . . everything feels like too much. Another project that has been circulating with independent presses and trying to find a publishing home is a collection of short stories I’ve titled: Woman of a C...

Prime Time

Image
After last night's Oscars, I feel validated as a woman past her prime still striving in the arts. I’m not a huge movie-goer. I want to support theaters, cinema, poetry and book readings—but my life has taken a turn with the pandemic. One, I moved away from Chicago and live, not necessarily in the sticks (I in fact live in the state capitol of Michigan) but am simply not acquainted yet with where everything is. I tuned into a poetry reading via Zoom out of MSU and it was freaky hard to find the links after registering. I had to give my email address so thought I’d get sent a link. There’s one book shop at the mall, but it’s sort of like a Barnes & Nobles or Borders, somewhat faceless. I’d like to find my people, my tribe in the arts here in central Michigan, but there are very few opportunities. On top of all that—I’m a working woman. I’m shocked now that I have to keep up with my job until age 70 in order to make any kind of pension how retreats, conferences, workshops ar...
