Summertime
City On Vacation
wake up to sirens woken up by noisy birds
stuffy, recycled air breathe deep, fill your lungs, fresh
clean crisp
morning shower morning swim
tasteless tomatoes farmstand tomatoes, warm from the sun
call maintenance when sink
clogs plunge it, try Draino, then call a neighbor
the whirl of helicopters
overhead listening to crickets, the buzz of big
bumble bees, their
stoney bodies hitting
the glass door
mouse gets inside mouse
gets inside
humid same
figure out a time to meet long and endless days, just stop by
cars double-parked canoes
and kayak tied up at the dock
the books you’ll get to days spent reading in the hammock
at night, the city comes alive go to bed early after a rowdy sunset
the lights at Wrigley glow fireflies in the tall pines put on a show
traffic leaving town not looking forward to long queues into the
city
